it’s not even a simple matter of ‘right’ and ‘wrong’. it’s easy to pick something apart and say it’s bad in and of itself when you divorce it from its proper context. my point is that these people shouldn’t have strong feelings about so-called ‘racism’ in foreign countries, period. it’s the equivalent of someone like me going to a PLO rally and just yelling “STOP BEING RACIST WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE SHAME ON YOU WHY CAN’T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG WAAAAAAAHHHHHH”. there are deep historical and sociological reasons that would foster the kind of environment where the kid in the picture would feel empowered for calling Japanese people monkeys (no, i’m sure he isn’t covering his face out of shame, you fucking moron). to condemn this Korean kid for speaking badly of Japan and reduce all of it to a simple matter of racism is to ignore generations of bad blood between the two countries.

and it’s interesting how the person i reblogged the previous post from even concedes that “there’s nothing koreans hate more than japan” but then can’t seem to resist the urge to talk down to him. it’s like they’re almost getting it but they’re too self-satisfied to go all the way with trying to understand things from his point of view and instead resort to completely unwarranted preaching. i hate to imagine the cushy lives these people must have led to react in such a way where they think racism (and especially racism born from nationalism) is somehow an uncommon phenomenon or that the optimal way to deal with it is to suppress it or cover our ears.

ugh sorry, i could seriously rant about this forever because tumblr is replete with ignorant dipshits with shitty opinions on korean culture.

Seriously?! SERIOUSLY? After this and the things this person uploaded yesterday, I think we need to write this Korean Students Speak ‘teacher’ a message. They are not teaching their students correct English and they are allowing them how to write racist, discriminatory crap and then even posting it online for others to ooh and ah over. I bet the kid got a piece of candy or sticker or something for writing this, too. This is sick.

And just look at all the likes and reblogs of the photo. And the comment someone posted which says “I feel the same way.” This person should not be employed in any teaching capacity whatsoever. I wrote them a message and I hope they will respond but I’m sure it will be something like “Blah blah the poor Korean kids have no self expression, they need a foreign teacher to come in and save them from their oppressive life, I do not believe in censoring my students’ thoughts, this project is about freedom of speech not political correctness, blah blah.’

Yeah this is starting to get goddamn ridiculous. If Korean students want to speak, let them start their own blogs.

I unfollowed a long time ago! It’s been all hate for months now. And do they really think that or is that what they are taught by the adults? Gross.

I teach middle school in Korea, and I can tell you this is very much the cultural mindset. There is nothing Korea hates more than Japan. However, for shame on the teacher for continuing to post racist, revolting things, making the kids think that what they’re saying is alright. You’re damn right you hide your face, child. You should be far more ashamed than you probably are.

i’m not condoning what this kid is saying by any means but hearing a bunch of snooty westerners talk about how they don’t approve of racist comments and how it’s somehow the blog owner’s civic duty to suppress this kind of sentiment (as if anti-Japanese ideology isn’t endemic within korean culture and history) really smacks more of cultural elitism than anything else.
